About Chemrey Monastery

Chemrey Monastery, also known as Chemrey Gonpa, is a Buddhist monastery situated in the picturesque landscape of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir. Founded in 1664 by Lama Lhatsun Chempo, it is one of the oldest and most revered monasteries in the region. The monastery is a fine example of traditional Ladakhi architecture, with its whitewashed walls, flat roofs, and vibrant prayer flags fluttering in the wind. The interior of the monastery is adorned with beautiful murals, intricate carvings, and stunning statues of Buddhist deities. Visitors can explore the monastery's various shrines, including the main temple, the Assembly Hall, and the shrine of the founder, Lama Lhatsun Chempo.
